All the news I feel like posting, when the mood strikes me, or when a news event grabs the attention of my obtuse, twisted mind, and I can think of a relevant, or witty, or sarcastic, or skeptical, or off-color, or paranoid comment to attach to the headline/blurb.

CLONE BABY COMING TO U.S.
"A newborn baby girl alleged to be the first human clone will return home with her parents Monday, the chief executive of the cloning company said Sunday." [CNN] {Shouldn't they be reporting that she'll return here with her parent.}

RANGEL DANGLES ANGLES
A Democratic lawmaker said Sunday he will introduce a bill in the next session of Congress to make military service mandatory. [CNN] {Here we go again. And from Charles Rangel, of all people. What's he angling for anyway? He can't be serious. He must want something else via compromise. Anyway, didn't we learn anything from Vietnam? Not everyone believes that military force is the answer to our problems. And government impressment of its citizens into military service is a violation of our right to be free from involuntary servitude.}

WORKER BEE SYNDROME
"Controversial group claims birth of a cloned baby girl it's dubbed Eve." [CNN] {If this baby cloning story is true, then the last element that the feminists need to construct a man-free society is in place. Watch out for the worker bee syndrome among the working women of the world. I wonder who the Queen will be? Maybe Hillary.}

UNPRECEDENTED THREATS
"President Bush cites 'unprecedented threats' to the United States as evidence that the nation needs the missile defense system he plans for 2004. Critics say he should fund basic security services such as border patrol and the Coast Guard first." [Wired News]{We prosecuted Enron execs for plundering the coffers of employee investors. Now it's time to prosecute Bush for plundering the federal coffers (built up by the previous administration) by spending all of the cash on the favorite projects of his rich oil and military supplies cronies.
The more I think about it, the more I realize how dangerous Bush really is. Because we tend to like him so much, we let him get away with more than we should. He's chipping away at our individual freedoms and environmental protections while he gives away our hard-earned tax dollars to his buddies' businesses, not to mention the tax breaks that destroy our hedge against future need.}

HYPOCRITES' HYPOCRITE
Clinton says that the Republicans' criticisms of Trent Lott are hypocritical because he "made public their strategy." [CNN] In New York today, Clinton said "How can they jump on him when they're out there repressing, trying to run black voters away from the polls and running under the Confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina? I mean, look at their whole record. He just embarrassed them by saying in Washington what they do on the backroads every day." [USA Today] {Someone's got to be the scapegoat. Otherwise it wouldn't be politics.}

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT
"North Korea is accusing the United States of blocking humanitarian food aid in retaliation for Pyongyang's decision to reactivate a nuclear reactor suspected of being used to produce material for nuclear weapons." [CNN] {The whole principle behind giving foreign aid in the first place is to convince other countries to conform to the way you want them to be. People who want to believe that we give money away for humanitarian reasons are naive. We give foreign aid to countries who do what we want them to do. To do anything else is just not sound psychology. To reward people who do not act according to your principles and betterment is to encourage them to continue acting in that same way, as is to fail to withdraw rewards to people who do not act the way you want them to. Humanitarian aid is a far less important, second-tier motive and is usually motivated by a desire to keep the good-hearts in your own country on your side.}

IRAQ FLAK
Iraq increases its fire at allied planes in the no-fly zone as a new round of U.N. weapons inspections begins. [Washington Times]{The coalition planes that patrol the no-fly zones do so by U.N. mandate, so when Iraq fires on them, it's firing on the U.N. Doesn't anyone think this casts light on Saddam's real intent? And if they do, why aren't they saying so? The inspections are a sham for this reason alone.}
