All the news I feel like posting, when the mood strikes me, or when a news event grabs the attention of my obtuse, twisted mind, and I can think of a relevant, or witty, or sarcastic, or skeptical, or off-color, or paranoid comment to attach to the headline/blurb.

A PSYCHOLOGICAL HERITAGE
"British folk rocker Linda Thompson, singing again after years of silence, says the payback for three years of arduous work on her new album came when she watched her son's reaction to a playback in the studio. Teddy Thompson was moved to tears when he heard the record's centerpiece, the mournful ballad "On the Banks of the Clyde," about Linda's recently deceased mother. "I thought, 'To make him cry, everything has been worthwhile,' " says Thompson."Fashionably Late" is her first album of fresh material in 17 years. Her career was interrupted by a psychological disorder that left her unable to sing and at times barely able to speak." [CNN] {I guess you would have a psychological disorder if you consider that making your son cry is worthwhile. Now, maybe if it were your daughter...}

QUESTIONABLE APPELLATION
Martin Luther King III petitions John Ashcroft to support legislation to remove former J. Edgar Hoover's name from the FBI's headquarters building. [CNN] {It's about time somebody started talking some sense. But, knowing the pc crowd, they'll probably end up going to the opposite extreme and renaming it something totally inappropriate, like the Martin Luther King, Jr. Building. (Actually, it'd be more pc to leave it as it is, as a tribute to America's cross-dressers.) So, why don't we compromise? I have a suggestion. How about the Alexander Haig Building. He always wanted to be more important than he actually was.}

MOVIE POLITICS
"Rush & Molloy: James Woods is looking out for Rudy Giuliani...The actor, due to play America's mayor in a cable TV movie, has demanded a rewrite of his script because it didn't make Giuliani look heroic enough, according to sources." (from the HardBall Newsletter) [N.Y. Daily News] {I think it may be more to the point that Woods is looking out for himself.}

FBI WANTS SENATE RECORDS
"The FBI wants senators to provide records of any contact with reporters on two days in June as part of a probe of leaks of classified information from the congressional investigation into September 11. One Senate source said some staffers are bothered by the fact that the FBI -- which itself is being investigated by a joint committee -- is now investigating those same committee members."[CNN] {It's becoming more and more obvious that this country is not working together on this "terror war." Or, as old Ben Franklin once said: "We must hang together, or surely we will hang separately." Or something like that. It's the thought that counts.}

RECORD HIGH FOR MISCREANTS
Federal statistics reveal that the U.S. correctional population at the end of 2001 was at a record high with 3.1 percent of the adult population jailed or under community supervision. [CNN] {When everybody becomes an outlaw, then no one is an outlaw. When a majority of citizens become disenfranchised, then rule by an elitist government becomes a real possibility. When 3.1% of a population . . . well, you do the math.}

BALANCED VIEWS
An aide of Prime Minister Sharon said that Israel urged the U.S. not to delay a military strike against Iraq. {Not everyone is against the U.S. attacking Iraq. Check this out. [Yahoo] But to keep a fair and balanced head, check this out too. [Mother Jones] It's a bit long loading the flash, but it's worth it.}

BIG BROTHER GEORGE
Bush insists that the Senate approve the new Homeland Security Department with "no bureaucratic strings attached." [Yahoo] {Just another step in the administration bid for unlimited power. But let's live in a real world, Georgie. You're not Saddam Hussein, praise be to Allah.}

STRIPPING FOR SUCCESS
"An uninhibited aide to Senator Hillary Clinton was thrown out of the Ritz-Carlton in Battery Park City the other night after stripping down to her bra in the hotel bar." [Hardball Newsletter] (link no longer valid) {This is the kind of operative we're missing in politics these days. I sure do miss Bill and his antics.}

END-TIME SCENARIO
Israel says it will retaliate if attacked by Iraqi missiles if and when the U.S. attacks Iraq. Thus, Israel will be involved in any Iraqi campaign. [Wash. Times] {Israel has to be involved in the end-time conflict for it to be Biblically valid.}

A GOOD OFFENSE
The defense is dragging Danielle Van Dam's parent's private life of "swinging" and pot smoking into the case against Westerfield, Danielle's alleged murdered. [Court TV] {You see, the implication by the defense is (and I don't hear anyone on the news shows talking about this) that Danielle's parents, because they are selfish hedonists, killed their daughter themselves and planted the evidence to shift the blame. Of course, the defense can't come right out and say this or they'd be severely chastised so that it would hurt instead of help the defendant. But they can imply it, get it into the collective minds of the jury members subliminally. If I can imagine it, so can they, given the right amount of prodding.}

FAT CAN BE HEALTHY?
"When people see Phyllis Warr, a short, stout woman who tips the scales at more than 250 pounds they assume she's out of shape -- until she starts getting down on the dance floor. Cathy Davis Pannone weighs more than 300 pounds, but in the swimming pool she glides along with a grace that justifies her nickname -- cat. The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance has a new message to sell at its annual convention this week: 'Being fat doesn't mean you can't be fit.'" [CNN] {Only one word for this: Bullshit! Some people can rationalize anything. Fat is unhealthy, period! I myself belong to NARCISSIST, the National Association to Reject Corpulence and Institutionalize Specific Serious Instances of Severe Tubbiness.}

ASIAN BROWN CLOUD
Estimated by scientists to be two miles thick, the "Asian Brown Cloud,"could kill millions globally and has already killed hundreds of thousands of people a year. [CNN] {Just a bit more evidence of end-times tribulation.}

REIMBURSEMENT CONSPIRACY
Bill and Hill are making a case for reimbursement of their legal expenses for the Whitewater case. {I think the Clinton's should be reimbursed. But I don't think that the taxpayers should be the ones to do the reimbursing. I think the Republican National Committee should.}

MAD PEOPLE DISEASE
Blood transfusions could be a much more prevalent means of transmitting Mad Cow Disease in humans than previously thought. [CNN] {And we have far too much of this already. We don't need any more mad people.}

FREEDOM FIGHTER
Bill Clinton says "If Iraq came across the Jordan River, I would grab a rifle and get in the trench and fight and die," [NY Post] {Wow! Be careful, Billy boy. Sounds like the onset of a mid-life crisis.}

TURKEY DEATH PENALTY ABOLISHED
In preparation for entering the European Union, Turkey initiates a series of reforms that include the abolition of the death penalty during peacetime. [CNN] {Well, well, well. What's this? Moderation? The wonderful influence of social participation and the anticipation of increased business profits. Now, if they could only make this strategy work toward the U.S.}

AMBER ALERT SYSTEM
Based upon news items of abductions over the past month or so, the message has been made quite clear: immediately throw all available manpower and technology at any case of child abduction if you want the best chance of success. (being formalized as "Amber Alert System"). Most abducted kids who are recovered safely are recovered within the first 24 hours. {Law enforcement agencies across the country better be developing a strategy to deal with a terrorist group who will abduct kids in a specific locale in order to overtax the policing resources prior to a major attack. Get with it. If I can imagine this scenario, then terrorists can too.}

IRAQ SOON TO HAVE NUKES
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee heard testimony from Khidir Hamza, Iraqi nuclear engineer who defected in 1994 and who claims that Iraq could have nuclear weapons by 1995. [CNN] {Hussein is the sociopath who sacked all the oil wells in Kuwait before he left. Do you think he'll hesitate to expend any nuclear and biochemical arsenals he might have? It doesn't matter if he has yet to develop them. He has the will. It's only a matter of time. So, go ahead and back him into a corner and see what he does.}

CELEBRATING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION
Thousands of Palestinians demonstrated in Gaza to celebrate the attack at the Hebrew University that killed seven and wounded thirty-nine.[Jerusalem Post] {Now, this is a perfect symptom of national mental illness if there ever was one--and they don't even have a nation yet.}

PILOT WHALES DEAD
After two previous beachings, pilots whales in Massachusetts were euthanized by marine experts who were unable to return them to the ocean for a third time in two days. [CNN] {Ever get the idea that maybe the whales intended to die, that an innate wisdom was at work, perhaps to prevent an infection from further spreading, and our "humane" efforts to save them were actually causing them more suffering than was necessary?}

SECOND-HAND CATS
New study proposes to link exposure to second-hand smoke to a common form of feline cancer. [MSNBC] {Okay. This is getting serious now. It's one thing when people are dying from second-hand smoke, but now it's killing cats! How many lives does this use up, I wonder.}

CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE
Three Wisconsin outdoorsmen may have died from a brain-destroying illness normally seen in deer. Medical experts fear that the "chronic wasting disease" may have crossed over to humans from wild game. [MSNBC] {Chronic Wasting Disease. I like that name.}
