A PSYCHOLOGICAL HERITAGE "British folk rocker Linda Thompson, singing again after years of silence, says the payback for three years of arduous work on her new album came when she watched her son's reaction to a playback in the studio. Teddy Thompson was moved to tears when he heard the record's centerpiece, the mournful ballad "On the Banks of the Clyde," about Linda's recently deceased mother. "I thought, 'To make him cry, everything has been worthwhile,' " says Thompson."Fashionably Late" is her first album of fresh material in 17 years. Her career was interrupted by a psychological disorder that left her unable to sing and at times barely able to speak." [CNN] {I guess you would have a psychological disorder if you consider that making your son cry is worthwhile. Now, maybe if it were your daughter...}
QUESTIONABLE APPELLATION "Rush & Molloy: James Woods is looking out for Rudy Giuliani...The actor, due to play America's mayor in a cable TV movie, has demanded a rewrite of his script because it didn't make Giuliani look heroic enough, according to sources." (from the HardBall Newsletter) [N.Y. Daily News] {I think it may be more to the point that Woods is looking out for himself.}
FBI WANTS SENATE RECORDS Federal statistics reveal that the U.S. correctional population at the end of 2001 was at a record high with 3.1 percent of the adult population jailed or under community supervision. [CNN] {When everybody becomes an outlaw, then no one is an outlaw. When a majority of citizens become disenfranchised, then rule by an elitist government becomes a real possibility. When 3.1% of a population . . . well, you do the math.}
BALANCED VIEWS An aide of Prime Minister Sharon said that Israel urged the U.S. not to delay a military strike against Iraq. {Not everyone is against the U.S. attacking Iraq. Check this out. [Yahoo] But to keep a fair and balanced head, check this out too. [Mother Jones] It's a bit long loading the flash, but it's worth it.}
BIG BROTHER GEORGE Bush insists that the Senate approve the new Homeland Security Department with "no bureaucratic strings attached." [Yahoo] {Just another step in the administration bid for unlimited power. But let's live in a real world, Georgie. You're not Saddam Hussein, praise be to Allah.}
STRIPPING FOR SUCCESS "An uninhibited aide to Senator Hillary Clinton was thrown out of the Ritz-Carlton in Battery Park City the other night after stripping down to her bra in the hotel bar." [Hardball Newsletter] (link no longer valid) {This is the kind of operative we're missing in politics these days. I sure do miss Bill and his antics.}
END-TIME SCENARIO The defense is dragging Danielle Van Dam's parent's private life of "swinging" and pot smoking into the case against Westerfield, Danielle's alleged murdered. [Court TV] {You see, the implication by the defense is (and I don't hear anyone on the news shows talking about this) that Danielle's parents, because they are selfish hedonists, killed their daughter themselves and planted the evidence to shift the blame. Of course, the defense can't come right out and say this or they'd be severely chastised so that it would hurt instead of help the defendant. But they can imply it, get it into the collective minds of the jury members subliminally. If I can imagine it, so can they, given the right amount of prodding.}
FAT CAN BE HEALTHY? Estimated by scientists to be two miles thick, the "Asian Brown Cloud,"could kill millions globally and has already killed hundreds of thousands of people a year. [CNN] {Just a bit more evidence of end-times tribulation.}
REIMBURSEMENT CONSPIRACY Bill and Hill are making a case for reimbursement of their legal expenses for the Whitewater case. {I think the Clinton's should be reimbursed. But I don't think that the taxpayers should be the ones to do the reimbursing. I think the Republican National Committee should.}
MAD PEOPLE DISEASE Blood transfusions could be a much more prevalent means of transmitting Mad Cow Disease in humans than previously thought. [CNN] {And we have far too much of this already. We don't need any more mad people.}
FREEDOM FIGHTER In preparation for entering the European Union, Turkey initiates a series of reforms that include the abolition of the death penalty during peacetime. [CNN] {Well, well, well. What's this? Moderation? The wonderful influence of social participation and the anticipation of increased business profits. Now, if they could only make this strategy work toward the U.S.}
AMBER ALERT SYSTEM IRAQ SOON TO HAVE NUKES CELEBRATING DEATH AND DESTRUCTION PILOT WHALES DEAD SECOND-HAND CATS Three Wisconsin outdoorsmen may have died from a brain-destroying illness normally seen in deer. Medical experts fear that the "chronic wasting disease" may have crossed over to humans from wild game. [MSNBC] {Chronic Wasting Disease. I like that name.} |

Three steps to a more informed future: You can't get a well-rounded and informed view of the world by watching network and cable news. Whether liberally or conser- vatively biased, it's all the same homogen- ized message of the monoculture. Rebel against this white- bread content.
Cancel your cable. (Look at how much money you will save right there.) Cable gets more and more expensive while its contents narrow more each year.
